This is a classic warm up activity that gets students talking and helps them get to know each other. It can also be used to teach or test a grammar point such as 'used to' or the present perfect.
1. Write 3 statements about yourself on the board. 2 should be true and 1 should be a lie. Try to make them as intriguing as possible!
2. Give students 2 minutes in pairs to decide which is the lie and why. Get feedback and tell them whether they were right or not.
3. Each student now writes down 2 truths and 1 lie about themselves. They read the statements out loud to their partner who guesses which is the lie.
4. Swap the students around and repeat. (Optional)
5. Get feedback. What did they learn about each other? What surprised them?
