No Prep Bingo

Updated: May 4, 2020

This is a useful game for reviewing vocabulary. Students make their own bingo cards so there's no photocopying or cutting for you to do before class!

1. Draw a 3 x 3 grid for the students to copy. Write 12-15 words on the board that you want to review. Ask students to individually choose 9 of these words to write in the squares of their grid in a random order. The idea is that every student now has a unique bingo card to play with.

2. To play, read out definitions or synonyms for the words in a random order. Students cross out a square each time a definition corresponds with a word on their card. Keep a note of the words you have used.

3. The first student to make a line of 3 words vertically, horizontally or diagonally shouts BINGO! They are the winner. If you like you can continue until one student has all the words on their card (a full house). Check the winning student's card in case they have made a mistake or cheated!

4. Review any words that caused problems.

** You can also use this game to review irregular verbs like in the image above. You read out the infinitive and students cross out the irregular past simple of the verb.
